So I made this rabbit hutch in similar fashion to one I already had.
It’s made from recycled pallet boards, 2”x 2”s, 2”x 4”s and plywood for the roof.
This project I didn’t think of taking pictures and I didn’t take very many throughout the process. Sorry!
Inside view of the sheltered living area.
I wanted it to be tall enough to go inside to clean or work on.
I made two access doors on that opens out and down for cleaning and the other opens up in the back for catching or easy access to the nesting box.
Painting every inch of wood (no rotting on my watch).
Add 1”x 1” wire or 1”x 2” welded wire to the bottom to allow grass eating, easy cleaning and prevent digging.
Before I finished this hutch one of the stray cats that come and eat food here showed up pregnant. She was wild but I caught her and turned this into a cat house for her to have her VERY SOON to be babies in safe place and taken care of. It worked great as a short term cat house, we moved it to the coolest place up in the trees since it was the middle of august.
The whole time I was working to befriend her and found her to be amazingly loving just a bit shy and warmed up to me and my husband after spending everyday with her and the kittens. All the kittens got amazing homes and I took momma kitty to get all her shots and get spayed. When we released her I was sad, thinking she would disappear. To my surprise she stayed and has been here everyday since.
With real roofing (not just a tarp) it will be perfect for rabbits. And maybe just maybe I’ll actually take a picture of it finished.
I plan to also add wheels to the back and a rope in the front, to easily move it around the yard.
